The Sea2Shore Festival was instigated by the Aberystwyth Sea Anglers and the Cardigan Bay Fisherman’s Association. The Communities First Team for Aberystwyth and Penparcau have worked closely with the group to develop the festival with the support of Food Centre Wales, Horeb, Tourism Partnership Mid Wales and Ceredigion County Council’s LEADER programme, Cynnal y Cardi. Further financial support has been awarded by Aberystwyth Town Council and the Civil Engineers Bam Nuttall.
It will be a busy day with dispays of live Crab and Lobster from Cardigan Bay, a working Trawler moored by the jetty, cooking demonstrations and tastings with Dai “Chef” Davies, originally from Aberystwyth, and Gill Reacord from Gill’s Place, Aberdyfi. Champion anglers will demonstrate fly tying and beach casting, and there will also be a range of interesting stalls with crafts, fishing tackle and information.

The Future of Communities First
From April 2012 Communities First will run as a Community Focussed Programme supporting the Welsh Government’s Anti-Poverty Agenda. It will support the most disadvantaged people in our most deprived areas with the aim of contributing to alleviating persistent poverty. Focussed on community-supported actions, it will work alongside other programmes to narrow the education, skills, economic and health gaps between the most deprived and more affluent areas of Wales. In relation to education and skills, the focus will be on supporting work that will ultimately improve the employability of individuals.

Following the successful three-day ‘Bag Packing’ charity event at Morrison’s Supermarket during April, Councillor Paul James, a member of Mid and West Wales Fire
Authority, is doing a charity three-in-a-row bungee jump to raise further money for CCTV cameras for the Llanbadarn Fawr path in Aberystwyth.
Councillor James, who is also a Member of Ceredigion County Council, will be doing the three consecutive bungee jumps on 28 August 2011 at Windsor Bray, Windsor. The Councillor will be jumping off the highest bungee platform in the UK, which measures in at a massive 100 metres in height.
The funds will go to installing cameras along the Aberystywth cycle and footpath following a number of knife attacks along the route between September and November last year. Fire crews have also attended grass and undergrowth fires near the path.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has already worked closely with Dyfed Powys Police, Ceredigion County Council, Aberystwyth Town Council, Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council, Ceredigion Community First, Morrison’s Supermarket and Crisp and Clear CCTV Solutions to raise funds for the CCTV scheme. During a succesful three-day sponsored ‘bag pack’ at Morrison’s Supermarket in Aberystwyth, fundraisers raised a phenomenal £4,922.47 with the help of groups from within the local community.
Any support through sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. Fire Service personnel and an Officer from Ceredigion County Council will be joining Councillor James for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Tai Ceredigion secures EU funding to deliver new services
Local housing association Tai Ceredigion has won a bid for £125,000 of European funding to deliver new services for their tenants. The services will include estate caretaking, ensuring that communal areas are kept clean and tidy, as well as a handyperson scheme for older and vulnerable tenants assisting them with non landlord maintenance such as gardening or minor improvements around the home.
The new services will be branded as ‘Gwasanaethau Medra Services’ and will mean cleaner, healthier environments and more help for elderly and vulnerable tenants. Tai Ceredigion will be creating up to seven new full time jobs and up to eight new training places through the scheme.
The new services are being developed with support from the Ceredigion Social Enterprise Growth Fund, a fund administered by Ceredigion County Council on behalf of the Adfywio Ceredigion Regeneration Partnership and supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Assembly Government.
Steve Jones, Tai Ceredigion’s Chief Executive welcomed the introduction of these new services and said “Tai Ceredigion is very pleased to have secured additional, external European Union funding to help realise our ambitions. This, together with efficiency savings made over the last 12 months, means that Tai Ceredigion will be able to deliver these important new services for our tenants earlier than originally planned. Advertisements for the new jobs being created will be placed on our website and in the local press shortly.”
The two services were initially outlined to tenants in the Ceredigion County Council’s formal offer document – the basis on which tenants voted for their homes to transfer to Tai Ceredigion. They will also deliver Tai Ceredigion’s wider economic commitment to create new jobs and training opportunities, particularly for those that are furthest away from the labour market. Trainee placements under the supervision of qualified tradesmen will enable people to have work experience that could enable them to secure long term employment.
