“CCTV bid for Aberystwyth knife attack footpath”
Plans are being drawn up to install CCTV along a footpath in Aberystwyth which has been the scene of two robberies at knifepoint. Community leaders and Dyfed-Powys Police have joined forces with Communities First to raise £15,000 for two cameras in an area near a supermarket to ensure the safety of local residents.
Councillor Paul James said: “The footpath/cycle path is used extensively and regularly by many members of the community including several youth groups and organisations in the area. Their safety is paramount to us all.”
Cllr. James organised a three-day bag-packing event at Morrison’s supermarket at the beginning April, which raised almost £5.000 towards the costs of the CCTV system. Aberystwyth-Penparcau Communities First were among the many community organisation involved in the fund-raising event.
